Like in many personal injury cases, the injuries suffered by a bicyclist in a bike crash can vary widely. In a minor accident, some may only suffer bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes, while in a more serious accident, the cyclist can suffer fractures or spinal injuries. When a catastrophic incident occurs, death or paralysis may result. Many bike injuries in New York result from a cyclist being injured by an opened car door, commonly referred to as a ‘dooring’ injury, or being run over and/or off the road by another vehicle.

A serious bike accident occurred recently that left a cyclist seriously injured. The accident, which occurred in Ogden, Monroe County, occurred on a recent Thursday morning in August. The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. when a pickup truck collided with the teen cyclist, Ogden Police said.

The 15-year-old cyclist was reportedly riding his bicycle north on a local road when a pickup truck that was headed east on an intersecting road collided with him. The truck’s driver, a 34-year-old Spencerport man, was not injured. New York State Police and deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department are both assisting Ogden Police in their investigation.

If involved in a bike accident, it is vital that New York cyclists know their legal rights and seek medical attention immediately. If injured, it is recommended that the victim remain calm, assess his or her injuries and the damage to the bike, and call 911, if necessary. Afterwards, the next crucial step is to contact an experienced attorney.
