As any New York resident who has been in a car crash can tell you, being involved in one can be a terrifying experience. Often, at least some of the people involved in car accidents are injured — sometimes severely — and their respective automobiles are badly damaged. The legal system can help the parties to the crash sort out who is at fault for the accident, as well as which party needs to pay for the doctors’ and mechanics’ bills.

An individual was injured in a recent car accident. The accident took place in the Hamptons on a recent Saturday morning in August. Around 3 a.m., a motorist was driving on Montauk Highway when police say a car in the opposing lane of traffic suddenly swerved over the double yellow line, striking the first motorist’s vehicle.

The motorist was injured and taken to a local hospital. The second motorist, a 35-year-old man, was uninjured in the crash. He was ticketed by cops for speeding and was later charged with a DUI due to the fact that he refused to take a breath test.

When an individual thinks that someone else was at fault in a car accident that he or she was involved in, it is imperative for the individual to have the facts of his or her claim reviewed by an experienced New York attorney as soon as possible. An attorney will be able to tell whether someone was negligent or reckless in causing harm to someone else. They will also be able to assess whether the victim may be able to collect damages to cover his or her losses, including medical bills and lost pay.
