Shark Recalls Motorcycle Helmets for Not Complying with Safety Standards

Sakkas Cahn

With the weather getting warmer, many people like to spend time outdoors. This also means many more motorcycles are on the road. As a motorcyclist, safety is imperative. New York and New Jersey state laws require the use of helmets for both drivers and passengers to avoid fatalities or serious head injuries in the event that an accident should occur. In fact, nearly 5,000 motorcyclists were killed nationwide in 2012.

It is important to not only wear a helmet, but one that fits properly and meets safety standards as well. A few weeks ago, the helmet manufacturer Shark recalled 2,538 RAW model helmets for defects after it was discovered they did not comply with the federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. The product failed to meet the impact attenuation requirement, which is critical as a preventative measure in the event of a crash. Unfortunately, even if a motorcyclist wears a helmet, a defect such as the one found in the RAW helmets could be a matter of life or death. Serious brain injuries and paralysis could also result from a defective helmet.

The Shark RAW helmets were manufactured between August 22, 2013 and June 29, 2014. The company began recall procedures on January 20, 2015.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident, you may be entitled to recover damages. For the compensation you deserved, contact the experienced personal injury attorneys at Sakkas, Cahn & Weiss at (332) 239-1601.
