$500,000 for this 41-year-old father, who while sitting on a bench, outside a Brooklyn coffee shop, and holding his newborn daughter, was struck in the head by veneer tiles that spontaneously dislodged from a wall behind him, while attempting to shield the baby. The impact resulted in a concussion and traumatic brain injury that led to throbbing headaches, blurry vision and a vestibular issue (vertigo and loss of balance), lasting several months. While the symptoms largely resolved over time, he still suffers with vertigo and ocular limitations and has had to give up skateboarding and cycling, among other activities.
