Being in New York City can be a thrilling experience for most individuals. Whether living and working in one of the greatest cities of the modern world, or simply visiting, New York has a tremendous number of things to do, see and experience. Unfortunately, with that comes a large number of other people and cars and, sometimes, an accident between the two occurs.

One such accident recently occurred between a pedestrian and an SUV. It occurred on a recent Monday afternoon in June in Midtown, Manhattan. The victim, a 67-year-old Brooklyn woman, was in the process of crossing the street in a crosswalk at W. 38th Street and Eighth Avenue, according to the preliminary investigation.

As she was crossing, she was struck by a black SUV that was in the process of turning onto Eighth Avenue from W. 38th Street. Police found the victim neither conscious or responsive when they arrived at the scene of the accident. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died, due to the injuries suffered in the accident.

The driver of the SUV has yet to be charged in connection with this fatal accident — however, the police’s investigation is ongoing. If the driver ends up being charged and convicted of a criminal charge against him, proof of this may help advance the victim’s loved ones’ possible wrongful death claim in a New York civil court. When fatal car accidents like this one occur, the surviving families of deceased victims typically choose to consult experienced personal injury attorneys in order to determine what legal steps may be appropriate with regard to any potential claims for monetary damages based upon the negligence of another party to the collision.
