When a wrong-way driver is involved in a crash, authorities will likely work to determine why the driver was traveling the wrong way. The reasons could have an impact on how the families of any accident victims wish to proceed after the incident. If fatalities do result from a crash resulting from a wrong-way driver, filing wrongful death claims may be warranted.
It was recently reported that an accident in New York took place due to a driver traveling east in the westbound lanes. The wrong-way car collided head-on with a van that was heading west. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. The car had a 23-year-old driver and a 25-year-old passenger. The van was carrying only the 49-year-old driver.
The incident resulted in both drivers suffering fatal injuries. The passenger in the car survived the incident but was considered to be in critical condition at the time of the report. The family of the van driver were reported as being in shock. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Authorities are likely continuing to investigate the incident.
The family of the deceased van driver undoubtedly have many questions regarding the accident. They may also wish to find answers about how to move forward from the event. Filing a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault could be an option they wish to consider. This type of civil claim could assist them in seeking compensation and justice for damages stemming from the crash that are permitted under New York law.
