Legal action continues following New York gas explosion

In past posts we have discussed the tragic incident that occurred in East Harlem last month. At least one negligence lawsuit in New York was filed last month, and other victims’ stories are getting attention with the pending status of their own lawsuits.

New York Daily News reports that the first New York wrongful death claim is being filed on behalf of one victim who died in the gas leak explosion. A 45-year-old woman was killed when a reportedly faulty gas line leaked dangerous gas into the city and caused a deadly explosion.

That victim isn’t the only one who died in the New York explosion. A total of eight people were killed because of what personal injury lawsuits thus far have classified as an issue of negligent maintenance. There are various targets of victims’ negligence allegations, including the city, an apartment landlord and an electric company.

The impact of the New York accident was especially great on at least one Harlem family. Not only did the above-mentioned victim die in the blast, but her mother was seriously injured in the incident, too. She is the plaintiff in her own negligent maintenance lawsuit against the city and other liable parties. Besides suffering physical injuries, the plaintiff lives with the tragic fact that her daughter is dead.

The alleged failure to fix and/or replace the old gas line that caused the explosion cost people their lives and left various victims injured. Victims and the families of those lost have legal options to be compensated for their loss and hold the negligent parties accountable for their wrongdoing.
