Bicyclist killed in New York accident with delivery truck

Sakkas Cahn

It is not unusual for individuals to bike to their desired destinations. Bicycles can be a useful mode of transportation, especially in areas with high traffic congestion. Many times, though, bicyclists ride in congested traffic areas. If an accident occurs, a bicyclist could be seriously injured or killed.

It was recently reported that three accidents occurred in New York in a five-hour timeframe, and one incident resulted in the death of one individual. Apparently, a man had been biking east on a roadway that did not have a designated bicycle lane. He attempted to pass a delivery truck on the right side, but the truck driver pulled to the right and struck the bicyclist. The cyclist then fell into the road and was hit by the back tires of the truck.

Emergency crews took the bicyclist to an area hospital, but he unfortunately succumbed to the injuries he suffered. He was reported as being 69 years old. At the time of the report, there had been no arrests made in relation to the accident. The incident was still being investigated, and more information may be released at a later time.

If the driver of the delivery truck is considered at fault for the accident, the surviving family of the bicyclist may wish to determine whether they would like to pursue a civil claim against the parties believed responsible. A wrongful death claim could allow them to seek compensation for funeral expenses and other damages resulting from the incident. Speaking with New York attorneys could help them learn more about this option.
